Harry Potter is one of my absolute favourite book series ever. Written by J.K Rowling it is one of the best-selling books in the entire world. Second only to the bible. The cover illustrator Thomas Taylor I believe is a genius capturing perfectly our first look into the magical world we know and love so well.
It is quite obvious that the main character in this story is Harry. Harry is young boy, whom is rather malnourished. He wears broken glasses and is more often than not being bullied by is very large and very spoiled cousin Dudley. This however is only his appearance until that magical night on his 11th birthday, when he welcomes an enormous visitor named Rubeus Hagrid who brings him the most unexpected news Harry had ever dreamed of. Harry is a wizard (or in Hagrids words )
“ You’re a wizard arry ”- Rubeus Hagrid Keeper of Keys and Grounds at Hogwarts.
After this encounter Harry embarks on a remarkable journey and is joined by many friendly characters but there are also a few more unfriendly characters. Two of the more friendly characters however are Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger. Hermione is an exceptionally intelligent bushy haired girl who is thought to be annoying but after a close encounter with a mountain troll she is more relaxed about rule breaking and becomes excepted by Ron and Harry.
Ron Weasley is a freckly red haired boy, whom Harry meets on the train to the magical school he is to attend, is the other of Harry’s best friends. He is immediately accepted by Harry and when it came to informing Harry on the wizarding world Ron came fully equipped.
Harry, Ron and Hermione are the best of friends and enjoy many adventures together during their first year.
Some of the less pleasant characters are such as the likes of Draco Malfoy and professor Snape. Draco Malfoy becomes an immediate enemy of Harry’s when he insults Ron just before they enter the great hall to be sorted into their houses.
Harry hates Snape passionately after the first words Snape says to him. And when comes down to picking suspects for a mystery Snape was high up on Harry’s list. But little did Harry know Snape was hiding a secret.
Harry Potter is set in an amazing castle in the country. With too many towers to count and enormous rooms Hogwarts castle is truly magical. Not only is the castle amazing but the grounds around it are also very magical. With the forbidden forest holding many creatures and secrets. And just outside of the forest is Hagrids hut with its thatched roof and inside the enormous bed on which Hagrid sleeps the entire ground of Hogwarts is truly amazing.
There’s not much more I can give away about the plot without ruining the story for you (If you haven’t already read it). All I can say is that the story is full of adventure and that there is definitely an unexpected plot twist at the end of the story.
I loved this book and I think that you will too. I loved the writing and found it very easy to understand and read. I liked the fact that the magic made sense and that J.K Rowling didn’t go overboard with the idea of a fantasy world. I think the story was gripping and unpredictable and I would recommend it to anyone whether they’re 100 or 10.
